Our Role and What We Do
As a research data repository, our role is to collect, use, and disclose PEI health-related data for research.
We protect the privacy and confidentiality of the individuals whose data we hold.
SIDR is a custodian of the personal health information stored in our research data repository, as defined in PEI’s Health Information Act.
We facilitate research on behalf of data providers that we have entered into data sharing agreements with, including Health PEI. We support research that can improve the health and wellbeing of people living in PEI.

Our goals:
- Provide researchers with secure access to de-identified health-related data for research.
- Facilitate research that describes and explains health care patterns and health profiles in PEI.
- Support government by providing data-driven evidence to inform decision-making and policy development.
- Strengthen research capacity in PEI.
- Support researchers through all stages of their research, from developing a research question to effectively sharing research results with the people who are impacted by them.
- Support researchers to meaningfully engage with patients, the public, and knowledge users during the research process.
- Foster interdisciplinary research and collaborations.
- Promote a better understanding of the importance of Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility (IDEA), and Indigenous data sovereignty in administrative data research.
