Land Acknowledgement
We respectfully acknowledge that the Secure Island Data Repository (SIDR) facility is located in Epekwitk, the Mi’kmaq name for the area now known as Prince Edward Island. The work of SIDR is carried out on the traditional, unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq People of this region.

This territory is covered by the “Treaties of Peace and Friendship” which Mi’kmaq and Wolastoqiyik People first signed with the British Crown in 1725. The treaties did not deal with surrender of lands and resources but in fact recognized Mi’kmaq and Wolastoqiyik title and established the rules for what was to be an ongoing relationship between nations. We are all Treaty people. SIDR is committed to developing authentic and meaningful relationships with Indigenous communities and supporting the inclusion of diverse perspectives in research across the Maritimes.
